BP Service Station
The western suburbs of Melbourne are renowned for their highly reactive clays overlying basaltic rock
and the site of the new Leaks Road BP development was no exception. Special consideration was given to
the footings of the sales building, fuel canopy, car wash, covered vacuum bays and signage to minimise
the impact of the shallow basaltic reefs. These shallow footings combined with the widespread use of
pre-cast panels enabled significant time and budget savings for the developer.
Particular attention was required to ensure the continued performance of the pavement. By focusing on the traffic paths, areas of reduced load were able to be identified which resulted in cost savings for the client. Similar savings were able to be achieved through the careful consideration of the depths of the storm water system. Limited by the basaltic reef, every length of pipe was examined to minimise the depth required to accommodate the storm water systems.
