Mount Ridley College
Parkhill Freeman had the pleasure of being involved in each of the stages of the development of the 13.66 hectare site of Mount Ridley
College. Catering for over 2400 pupils across Prep to year 12, the campus is broken into a series of 'Learning Communities' that cluster
together the facilities for each aged group. From the steel and timber framed masonry veneer classrooms, to the pre-cast panel PAC & 150
seat tiered auditorium and the two portal framed gymnasiums, clever detailing and innovative design solutions produced a structural system
that was simple and economic to construct.
The new 'Learning Communities' buildings were protected from surface run off from the neighbouring council lands and expansive sports ovals through the careful management of site levels. By mounding the ground around the Communities, the run off was able to be diverted away from buildings towards landscaped retention ponds. The selection of water resistant shrubs and reeds was carefully considered to blend the ponds in with the surroundings and filter the runoff of contaminates.
