Ampol Service Station
Frankston

Much like the waves that inspired the final architectural design of the Ampol service station in Frankston, the project continuously evolved and morphed. The original architectural vision for the service station included a rectangular sales building and fuel canopy with an additional car wash with curved parapets. However, in obtaining council approval, the fuel canopy and the car wash were reimagined to reflect Frankston's beach location. Parkhill Freeman took the initiative with these changes and explored what simplifications could be introduced to increase buildability and affordability of the project, all the while maintaining the architectural inspiration.

The sales building was partially located under the existing residential apartment building. Parkhill Freeman developed a solution that enabled the first floor apartments to be retained and inhabited throughout the construction process.
