McDonald's Glen Waverley
Built over the basement of the first free standing McDonald's restaurant in Victoria,
the new store presented several challenges in its design. Three different slab
solutions were adopted to make use of the most economical & efficient construction
methods. The most innovative was the middle third, constructed over the
existing basement slab to minimize the time and cost of the demolition works.
A lightweight steel frame was adopted to maximize the northern glazing, opening up the restaurant with magnificent views towards the Dandenong ranges. This was complimented with pre-cast concrete panels forming the walls of the back of house and basement extension. An innovative panel connection solution was adopted to increase the construction speed by removing the need of traditional cast in plates, welding and subsequent patching of the panels.
