McDonald's Melton South

To celebrate the 1000th McDonald's restaurant, the Melton South restaurant was a showcase of environmentally friendly design in fast food. From the specification of low carbon footprint concrete to world's best practice storm water treatment to extensive roof mounted solar panel coverage, every facet of the project was reviewed to find potential innovations.

These innovations weren't only limited to the Sustainability Flagship Melton South Restaurant but were designed with the intention to roll out any viable, successful initiatives to other restaurants. Recycled material was specified to be used throughout the building, from cutlery to furnishings and even including the building structure. The storm water system was carefully designed to reduce the length of pipework required and the depth of trenching and pits required, further reducing the embodied energy of the building.
