Secre Coeur girls college sought to redevelop the asphalt netball courts at the front of
their property. Their vision was to construct 6 suspended, multipurpose sports courts
over a new 140 bay car park. Cut into the school's oval, Parkhill Freeman devised a solution
using pre-stressed band beams & slab with pre-cast retaining walls to minimize the material
use and enable a speedy construction.
Performing the design and computation of the pre-stressing in-house, particular attention was required for several band beams supporting 4.5m tall basketball hoops that were to be bolted to the court surface. This attention resulted in a slim structure that could be trafficked during a school fete as well as minimizing undue motions during sports events.
